Health Benefits & Uses Of Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo Biloba health benefits
are enduring and Ginkgo uses are famous all over the world.
Ginkgo Biloba uses are countless; though a few have come
into the limelight. Chinese have been practically the fan
of this tree, from last 2 decades even the Europeans are.
There are many health benefits
that are the resultant of Ginkgo Biloba usage. You might
also be interested in knowing some of the health benefits,
right? Here they are:
Claudication (painful
legs from clogged arteries)
Numerous studies suggest that Ginkgo Biloba taken by mouth causes small
improvements in claudication symptoms. Most studies
have used 120 milligrams of ginkgo per day, divided into
two to three doses, for up to six months. But exercise and
routine walk is still the best option so far so keep on
doing it with an addition to Ginkgo Biloba.
Dementia, Alzheimer's, Cerebral insufficiency and Age-associated
memory impairment (AAMI)
The uptake of Ginkgo Biloba (120 to 240 milligrams daily) benefits people
with early stage Alzheimer's disease and multi-infarct dementia.
Cerebral insufficiency includes poor concentration, confusion, absent-mindedness,
decreased physical performance, fatigue, headache, dizziness,
depression, and anxiety.
It is believed that cerebral insufficiency is caused by
decreased blood flow to the brain due to clogged
blood vessels. So something like Ginkgo Biloba which
increases the blood flow can be the best drug for cerebral
insufficiency. This is one of the many uses of Ginkgo Biloba
for the brain
AAMI is a non specific syndrome and can be a resultant of Alzheimer’s.
Though no strong evidences of AAMI treatment but it falls
under the same circulatory problems; therefore there are
strong chances to treat it as well.
Mountain sickness
A small amount of poorly designed research reports benefits of ginkgo
for the treatment of altitude (mountain) sickness.
A definite benefit over a prescription drug has not been
demonstrated. Additional study is needed before a recommendation
can be made.
Tinnitus and Cochlear Deafness
There is conflicting research regarding the use of Ginkgo
for tinnitus. Traditional use and multiple small, poorly
designed studies from the 1980s and 1990s report benefits.
Preliminary clinical study has been conducted on the effect
of Ginkgo Biloba in chronic cochlea-vestibular disorders.
Further research is needed before a recommendation can be
made. Researches are still going on and off course need
some time to resolve the controversies.
Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and Pre Menstrual
Syndrome (PMS)
Many studies of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) suggest that Ginkgo
is not effective in preventing the development of winter
depression. Other research in elderly patients with depression
shows possible minor benefits.
Overall, there is not enough evidence to form a clear conclusion.
Initial study in women with premenstrual syndrome or breast
discomfort suggests that Ginkgo Biloba may relieve symptoms
including emotional upset. Further well-designed research
is needed before a recommendation can be made.
Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration
and Retinopathy
Ginkgo Biloba has shown significant increase
in the blood flow to peripheral areas including the
eyes. It also increases intraocular pressure. Hence it has
strong chances; though fewer evidences of healing.
Reynaud’s Phenomenon
Reynaud’s disease is caused by impaired blood flow to the fingers and
toes. Increased microcirculation caused by Ginkgo Biloba
helps significantly in this.
Vertigo
A small amount of poorly designed research reports benefits of ginkgo
for the treatment of vertigo. Additional study is needed
before a recommendation can be made.
Vitiligo
Use of oral Ginkgo Biloba extract 40 milligrams three times daily reports
that ginkgo appears to arrest the progression of this disease.
